"Fidelio" is the name of the only opera to be composed by Beethoven. The story unfolds at the end of the 18th century. Florestan an honest politician is kidnapped and held prisoner by his political opponent Don Pizarro, governor of a prison. Florestans wife, Leonore disguises herself as a young man (Fidelio) and gains employment at the prison as a cook in order to see her husband. Although Florestan doesn’t recognize her, he does, however perceive the distinct taste of her cooking. The story continues with Leonore helping her husband to escape.
